Add Page Numbers to PDF — Free Online Tool

SeerKits Team

Page numbers turn a loose collection of PDF pages into a professional document. Whether you are preparing a legal brief, a thesis chapter, or a client report, numbered pages help readers cite specific sections and verify nothing was lost during printing or transmission.

Why Add Page Numbers to PDFs?

PDF viewers show their own page counter, but that counter may not match your document structure — especially after merging files or inserting cover pages. Embedded page numbers travel with the file, appearing identically in every viewer, printout, and email attachment. Courts, academic institutions, and corporate style guides often require visible page numbers in specific positions.

SeerKits PDF Page Numbers tool stamps numbers directly onto your pages in your browser. Choose top or bottom placement, left/center/right alignment, starting number, and format style — all without Adobe Acrobat.

Step 1: Open PDF Page Numbers

Go to the PDF Page Numbers tool. Upload your PDF (up to 50 MB on the free tier). Thumbnails appear so you can preview layout before numbering.

Step 2: Configure Number Format and Position

Set the options that match your document style:

  • Position — top or bottom of the page, aligned left, center, or right.
  • Starting number — begin at 1 or any custom value (useful when numbering continues from a previous volume).
  • Format — plain numbers (1, 2, 3), "Page X of Y", or "X / Y" styles.
  • Font size — adjust for readability without obscuring document content.

Exclude cover pages or table-of-contents pages from numbering if your style guide requires it.

Step 3: Apply and Download

Click Apply to stamp page numbers onto every selected page. SeerKits processes locally in supported browsers. Download the numbered PDF and spot-check the first and last pages, plus any excluded sections.

Best Practices

Number after merging all sections — if you add pages later, re-run the numbering tool to keep sequences correct. For double-sided printing, use bottom-center placement so numbers appear in the same visual position on both recto and verso pages. Combine with Rotate PDF first if any pages are sideways, so numbers appear upright.

Privacy

Page numbering runs locally in your browser when supported. Confidential reports and legal filings stay on your device throughout the process — no account or cloud storage required.
